Press Conference: Traffic Stop leads to arrest of convicted felon possessing numerous illegal firearms.

Date of release: May 16, 2018
Time: 1230 hours

On Monday, May 7, 2018 at 2149 hours, West Covina Officers conducted a traffic stop on a white 2017 Jeep Liberty for a vehicle code violation in the area of Lark Ellen and Rowland Streets in West Covina. During the course of the stop, a rifle was seen on the back seat of the vehicle. The driver, a convicted felon, was detained and additional firearms and ammunition were located inside the vehicle. In total, 9 handguns and 5 assault rifles, including AR-15s and an AK-47, were found.

The suspect, identified as Andrew Jose Solis, 28 of La Puente, was arrested and booked for possession of assault rifles, possession of ammunition/criminal street gang activity, illegal possession of firearms and convicted felon in possession of firearms. Bail was set at $75,000.00. Suspect Solis bonded out on May 8, 2018.

These weapons, which were booked into evidence, represent one of the largest single gun seizures made during a traffic stop in the city. It is believed that the suspect, a convicted felon and admitted street gang member, transported these weapons across state lines into California. The investigation is continuing.

The West Covina Police Department has scheduled a press conference at the station to be held on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. to display these firearms and provide details on the arrest. The suspect’s booking photo will also be released.
