Car Stop Leads To Gun Charges 
On May 14, 2018 at 12:24am, a Berkeley Police Officer working patrol observed a vehicle code violation on the 900 block of Ashby Avenue. As the officer approached the car to discuss the matter with the two occupants who were stopped at a gas station, the passenger (later identified as Javon Lee 22, of Oakland) exited the vehicle and began using his cell-phone while the driver (identified as Edward Riley 22, of Oakland) turned to pay for gasoline. While standing next to the car, the officer saw an unrolled marijuana cigarette sitting on the center armrest. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, the officer found a firearm on the passenger seat underneath a bag where Lee had been sitting.
The officer arrested Lee 22, and Riley 22, both of Oakland, for a number of firearm related charges.
