On September 23, 2012 at 1714 hours, West Covina Police responded to the Queen of the Valley Hospital regarding a stabbing victim in their emergency room. The victim, Ibrahim Zepeda who was 18 years old at the time, succumbed to his injuries during surgery. It was learned that the stabbing had occurred in the parking lot outside the Sears Store located at 1209 Plaza Drive, West Covina.
West Covina Police Detectives continued to follow up on this case throughout the years and recently developed leads that provided potential identities of the suspects. The investigation led officers to identifying David Ernie Sanchez Jr, 24 of Hesperia and Joseph Andrew Quintero, 30 of El Monte as suspects in connection with the murder.
On May 10, 2018, Sanchez was arrested as he left his home in Hesperia. On May 18, 2018, Quintero was arrested without incident as he left his home in El Monte.
The US Marshals Fugitive Apprehension Detail assisted in locating and arresting both suspect.
The case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office in Pomona Superior Court. The charge of 187 PC – Murder with Gang Allegations was filed on both suspects.
Bail for Sanchez was set at $2,040,000.00.
Bail for Quintero was set at $$3,060,000.00.
Both are scheduled for arraignment on June 14, 2018, 8:30 AM at the Pomona Superior Court.
