City seeks input on plans for housing and other community needs

The Albany City Council will hold a public hearing at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2018, in the Albany City Hall Council Chambers to hear public comment on the 2018-2022 Consolidated Plan which will guide the City’s use of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds over the next five years and on the 2018 Action Plan, which specifies how the City proposes to use 2018 CDBG funds.  The plans can be viewed on the City’s website, www.cityofalbany.net/cdbg, at Albany’s public libraries, and at the Community Development counter in City Hall.

The City receives CDBG funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to address housing, community, and economic development needs primarily for Albany’s for low- and moderate-income and special needs residents.  The 2018-2022 Consolidated Plan goals are to create and preserve affordable housing, reduce homelessness, provide needed public services, enhance economic opportunities, and increase accessibility.  The 2018 Action Plan proposes CDBG funding for public services to Albany’s homeless, low-and moderate-income residents; housing rehabilitation and home-buyer assistance to low- and moderate-income households; property acquisition and clearance for affordable housing; small business development; and accessibility improvements in Sunrise Park and other low- and moderate-income areas.

The City is accepting citizen input on the two plans, on community needs that could assist Albany’s low- and moderate-income residents, and the City’s performance on CDBG-funded programs.  Comments will be accepted through 5:00 p.m. on Friday, June 22, 2018.  Written comments may be emailed to [email protected]; mailed to PO Box 490, Albany, Oregon, 97321; or delivered to the Community Development counter in City Hall at 333 Broadalbin Street SW.

The City promotes fair housing and makes all programs available to low- and moderate-income families regardless of age, race, color, religion, sex, national origin, sexual preference, marital status, or handicaps.  For more information about Albany’s CDBG programs, email Anne Catlin or call 541-917-7560.  Contact the Human Resources Department at 541-917-7506 for special accommodations to attend the hearing or provide comments.
