Press Release: Juveniles Arrested After Running From Stolen Car

DATE: May 23, 2018
LOCATION: Kennedy Drive near North Park Victoria Drive
CASE #: 18-143-142
SUSPECT #1: 15-year-old male resident of Fresno
SUSPECT #2: 12-year-old female resident of San Jose
SUSPECT #3: 17-year-old male resident of San Jose
SUSPECT VEHICLE: Black 1994 Honda Civic sedan

On May 23, 2018, at approximately 7:16 p.m., a Milpitas Police Department police sergeant was patrolling the residential area of Kennedy Drive when he saw a black1994 Honda Civic sedan speeding on the street and initiated a traffic enforcement stop. Although the car appeared to pull over, it quickly sped away. The sergeant later saw the same car traveling slowing on Rankin Drive and saw the occupants abandon the car, which had been reported as stolen to the San Jose Police Department earlier in the day. The sergeant chased the suspects and arrested suspect #2. With the help of an alert resident in the area who pointed out a suspicious person who had run through a backyard, suspect #1 was found on Fox Hollow Court and arrested on Evans Road after an officer chased him. After another observant resident notified the police about a different suspicious person on North Park Victoria Drive, suspect #3 was arrested. Suspect #1 was booked into the Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall for automobile theft, possession of stolen property, and resisting arrest. Suspect #2 and suspect #3 were issued citations for possession of stolen property and resisting arrest, and they were released to their parents.

We would like to thank and commend our residents for alerting our officers to the location of the suspects in this case. This is yet another example where our residents working closely with our officers helps to impact crime and the safety of our community.

We continue to encourage our residents to call the police department to report suspicious behavior and criminal activity. Working in partnership with our community members will continue to have a positive impact on crime and the quality of life for our residents.
