SUSPECT VEHICLE: Brown 1990 Lexus LS400 sedan
On May 17, 2018, at approximately 6:18 p.m., a Milpitas Police Department police officer was patrolling the parking lot of the Great Mall of the Bay Area and saw a group of 3 men and a woman walking through the parking lot and looking into parked cars. When the woman saw the officer, she signaled to the men. The group split up, and the individuals went in different directions. The officer monitored one of the men, later identified as Joseph Jones Jr., but lost sight of him when Jones continued traversing between different parked cars. The officer went to a nearby store in order to review the exterior surveillance footage in an attempt to identify and locate the group. The footage showed Jones went to a brown 1990 Lexus LS400 sedan in the parking lot and changed his clothing before walking away again. The officer watched the sedan until Jones returned to it. Jones had an active “no bail” felony arrest warrant for violation of probation in Marin County stemming from a prior attempted burglary case, and he was on probation for automobile theft in Alameda County. Jones was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for the warrant.
