On 06-04-18 at 12:59 a.m., a Janesville Police Officer was stopped for a red light facing north on Center Ave. at W. Racine St. As the officer was waiting for the light to change, a truck nearly rear-ended the squad the officer was driving. The officer heard squealing tires and saw the vehicle stop, just before rear-ending the squad.

After the light turned green the officer conducted a U-turn in an attempt to stop the truck. The truck accelerated at a high rate of speed, north on Center Ave. The officer activated his emergency equipment and attempted to stop the vehicle. The vehicle fled the officer east on W. Court St. Shortly after turning onto W. Court, the vehicle left the road and drove down the sidewalk on the south side of W. Court for approximately 50 yards. The vehicle struck some landscaping and rocks, disabling the truck.

The driver, Barry Lucas, exited his truck and approached the officer in a threatening manner. The officer was able to successfully deploy his taser and take Barry into custody. Barry showed signs of intoxication and impairment. Barry was arrested for OWI 5th Offense, Fleeing an Officer, Threats to Law Enforcement, Resisting an Officer and Hit and Run.
