Chief for a Day 06/07/2018 at 2pm; Sheriff's Office closed 06/07/2018 from 1-3:30pm for the event
EPHRATA, Wash. (05JUNE2018) - Local public safety agencies will host the 17th annual Chief for a Day event at 2:00 p.m. Thursday June 7 on the front lawn of the Grant County Courthouse, 35 C St-NW, Ephrata.
Chief for a Day celebrates the lives of several children from throughout the county, each of whom endures and overcomes considerable physical or developmental challenges every day. Each child is honored and "empowered" as chief of a local law enforcement or fire agency for the duration of the celebration day.
The event is hosted by local and state law enforcement and fire agencies.
The ceremony includes presentations by heads of those agencies, the Board of County Commissioners, Superior Court Judges and other dignitaries.
The event is sponsored by the Thomas A. Boruff Foundation, an Ephrata-based nonprofit organization focused on assisting special needs children in the U.S. and Mexico.
The public is also advised that the sheriff’s office in the courthouse will be closed beginning at 1:00 p.m. on June 7 so staff can assist with Chief for a Day. The sheriff’s office will reopen at 3:30 p.m.
