Late yesterday, Sheriff’s Office deputies were notified by Emergency Dispatch that a stolen semi-truck’s GPS indicated that it may be somewhere on rural St. Helena Island. The semi-truck, a 2018 Peterbilt valued at $90.000 that had been reported stolen out of Charlotte, North Carolina, was not readily observable by deputies, who searched the area. In the interest of expediency, deputies contacted the Sheriff’s Office Aviation Unit and a helicopter responded to assist in the search. Within several minutes, the helicopter’s pilot spotted the semi-truck parked in a wooded area off of Kinfolk Lane and directed deputies on the ground to its location.

The semi-truck was recovered, but no subjects were located. The semi-truck was processed for DNA evidence, which will be analyzed at the Sheriff’s Office Forensic Services Laboratory. The semi-truck was towed from the wooded area and will be returned to its owner in Charlotte.
