SB 1 Project Begins Today in South County
Caltrans construction will begin today on Interstate 5 (I-5) and Interstate 805 (I-805) to replace concrete pavement, repair spalling and other roadway improvements. Work will take place Sundays through Thursdays from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. with some weekend work as needed. Motorists can expect lane closures, but no full freeway closures are anticipated.
Work will take place at the following locations:
• I-5 – from Camino de la Plaza in San Ysidro to L Street in Chula Vista;
• I-805 – from Palm Avenue overcrossing to the 18th Street overcrossing in National City.
Residents can expect noise impacts from saw cutting and pavement grinding. Every effort will be made to minimize noise and traffic impacts during the project. Ultimately, motorists will be provided a smoother travel way.Work is planned for completion this fall. Caltrans appreciates your patience as this work progresses.
This project is funded by Senate Bill 1 (SB 1), the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017, which is expected to invest $54 billion over the next decade to fix roads, freeways and bridges throughout California, as well as improve transit and safety.
Motorists are reminded to be Work Zone Alert, watch for construction crews, and move over away from the work areas.
