On June 9, 2018, at 7:45 P.M. deputies were dispatched to the area of Highway 31A in the Brick Church area to a call of shots fired. The complainant told E-911 dispatchers they were being pursued by a man in a black GMC pickup and he had run into the rear of their vehicle several times. After officers made contact with the victims, they told him they had been on Robertson Fork Road in Giles County when Jordan Hindman encountered them in the black GMC truck, and he blocked them off at Highway 129 and Robertson Fork Road. The person in the vehicle was known to the victims as twenty-seven-year-old Jordan Hindman and is the victim’s ex-husband. Mr. Hindman approached the victim’s truck and struck the window with a rifle. The victim’s fled the scene in their truck, and Mr. Hindman fired the gun a few times. Mr. Hindman pursued them on Highway 129 to I65 and tried to hit them with his vehicle several times before they exited in Giles County at Exit 22 onto Highway 31A.
Once on Highway 31A, the victims headed toward Pulaski with Hindman in pursuit. The two vehicles stopped at a store near Bufford Station Road and Highway 31A after Hindman struck the victims vehicle with his truck. Mr. Hindman began yelling at the victims and hit the driver knocking his glasses off. Mr. Hindman went back toward his truck to get the rifle, and the victims fled the area headed back toward Interstate 65. As they fled, they heard Mr. Hindman firing the gun again. While driving, they encountered Connersville Police and Marshall County Deputies. Mr. Hindman had left the area at this time.
Deputies called for more help, and Chief Deputy Tommy Chapman activated the Special Response Team and investigators. The Tennessee Highway Patrol was requested to assist the Sheriff’s Office in locating Hindman. A THP helicopter was summoned to help search a location that Hindman was believed to be. During the investigation, it was determined that Hindman had been to the victim’s residence and shot holes into two vehicles and an ATV on the property. Hindman is believed to be the person that destroyed the victim's house, and several windows and other property inside the home was broken. Hindman was located shortly after 7:00 A.M the next morning and taken into custody without incident.
Jordan Hindman is charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder and remains in the Giles County Jail without bond. The investigation continues as the crime scene is wide-spread. There will be other charges presented to the next term of the Giles County Grand Jury.
Sheriff Helton said this was an excellent example of agencies cooperating to resolve a very fluid situation and apprehending a violent suspect without further incident. The Sheriff praised his staff and the help from Giles County EMS who stood by on scene with officers while they searched for the suspect. The THP Troopers, their helicopter, and crew were invaluable to the search of Mr. Hindman. The Sheriff would also like to thank Tennessee Wildlife Resource Officer David Crane and his K-9 for helping search for a weapon after the arrest of Mr. Hindman. E-911 dispatchers were very helpful in obtaining pertinent information and relaying that information to officers on the scene. Cornersville Police and Marshall County Deputies along with a Giles County Deputy took care of the victims and kept them safe while the search for Hindman was ongoing.
