Torrance Police Implement Body-Worn / In-Car Cameras
The Torrance Police Department has now incorporated the use of a Mobile Video Audio Recording System. After several months of testing and evaluation, the Torrance Police Department has begun implementing this technology. Fifty (50) vehicles within the fleet including patrol units, traffic units, and motorcycles will be equipped with mobile cameras.
Officers will also be personally outfitted with a body-worn camera attached to their uniform. This camera is similar in size to a standard cellular phone.

The Torrance Police Department plans for this new system to be fully operational within a few weeks. All recordings will be kept pursuant to applicable retention periods.
The Torrance Police Department believes this technology will be vital in providing timely information to Department personnel, enhancing crime scene investigations, and keeping our officers and community members safe. The Torrance Police Department values the support we receive from our residents and neighbors, and understands this technology will enhance transparency with our community.
