FOUR IN CUSTODY AFTER BEING APPREHENDED FOLLOWING BREAKING AND ENTERING INVESTIGATION.
On the afternoon of June 15th, 2018, the Lake Lure Police Department was dispatched to a possible breaking and entering into a home on Marina Drive just minutes from the police department. Sergeant Carl Umphlett communicated that he would be enroute to the home where the owner had just arrived to find four individuals exiting the house.
Corporal Aaron Collins who was at the police department also received the call regarding the breaking and entering and immediately got into his vehicle and proceeded toward Memorial Hwy. During these few moments, the caller reported that the individuals had just taken off in a silver Honda traveling toward Memorial Highway. Corporal Collins positioned his vehicle at the entrance to the Town Hall on Memorial Hwy when he witnessed the vehicle speeding by heading towards Boys Camp Road. Corporal Collins pulled in behind the vehicle and initiated a vehicle stop.
In the vehicle were four occupants, Cecil King III DOB 10-21-1989, Bruce Freshwater DOB 02-18-1986, Venessa Freshwater DOB 01-29-1986 and Laura Lion DOB 01-15-1996. All four subjects were from South Carolina. Upon questioning the suspects and interviewing the home owner, it was discovered that the same group had broken into the home previously. One of the suspects, a relative of the homeowner, had been previously warned that they were not permitted at the home.
The four suspects were taken into custody and taken to the Rutherford County Detention Center where they were booked in on Breaking and Entering charges.
