Residents have been reporting our Police number (610) 966-2222 has been showing on their caller ID. Calls are reported to be made during late evening or early morning hours of the day. We have received no reports that verbal messages are left or that a resident has actually spoken to a person.
Our department is NOT making these calls though our name and number appears on caller ID displays. Our station number has been "spoofed" and we are trying to remedy the problem. It's possible we will never be able to find the responsible party using our number but if you were to actually speak with a person we suggest you hang up and call us back directly. If we were calling you, we would remain on the line and speak with you. If we are trying to contact you due to an emergency situation we would most likely show up at your home.
Spoofing is commonly done using sophisticated computer equipment designed to allow the user to display a different number on caller ID then where the actual call is made from.
