We have seen an increase of people illegally soliciting door to door business in town. Often this work requires a building permit which the contractors are failing to file for. Be careful and do not purchase goods or contract for work with door to door salespeople unless they possess a permit issued by the Township of River Vale. Chapter 174 of the township code requires all Hawkers/Peddlers/Canvassers to apply for a permit from the Township and have said permit on their person when going door to door. Applicants must pass a background check to obtain a permit to solicit business in River Vale. Verify a valid permit before you do business, Permits shall contain:

• signature and seal of the issuing officer
• name, address and photograph of licensee
• kind of goods to be sold
• amount of fee paid
• date of issuance & and length of time the same shall be operative
• license number
