Lytle Creek - Sheriff's Aviation Air Rescue 306 conducted a hoist rescue of an injured hiker at Bonita Falls

VICTIM: Anthony Torrero, 33 years old from Victorville
SUMMARY:
On Saturday, June 23, 2017, the victim, AnthonyTorrero, was attempting to climb a rock wall at the base of Bonita Falls in the Lytle Creek area when he slipped and fell several feet to the valley floor. As a result of the fall, Torrero sustained injuries that prevented him from hiking out of the area on his own. Hiking companions of Torrero ran toward the main road until they were able to receive a cell signal and called 911 for help.
After receiving the call, Sheriff's Dispatch dispatched a patrol deputy to the call and due to the remote location requested assistance from the Sheriff's Aviation Unit. San Bernardino County Fire Department also responded to the area. The Sheriff's rescue helicopter (Air Rescue 306) responded and quickly located Torrero at the base of Bonita Falls. Due to the remote area and the nature of Torrerro's injuries, the crew decided a hoist rescue would be the most appropriate means to remove Torrero from the area.
The crew posistioned the helicopter over the falls, lowered rescue personnel down to Torrero, placed Torrero into a rescue harness and hoisted him up to the helicopter. Once on board Terroro was flown to the Lytle Creek Ranger Station and transferred to a waiting ambulance for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.
