Severe thunderstorm watch
Effective this Tuesday afternoon and evening from 220 PM until
1000 PM CDT. for
IN SOUTHERN ILLINOIS
FRANKLIN HARDIN JOHNSON
MASSAC POPE PULASKI
SALINE WILLIAMSON
* Primary threats include...
Scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 mph likely
Scattered large hail events to 1.5 inches in diameter possible
A tornado or two possible
SUMMARY...Severe storms along an outflow boundary in southeastern
Missouri will likely persist and move eastward as the low levels
destabilize south of the boundary through the afternoon. The
environment will support a mix of multicell clusters and supercells,
capable of producing large hail and damaging winds. Farther west, a
larger cluster of storms is developing toward central Missouri, and
these storms should move along the same corridor later this
afternoon/evening, with damaging winds the primary threat.
Otherwise, given multiple storm/boundary interactions, an isolated
tornado or two will be possible.
The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 60
statute miles north and south of a line from 35 miles west northwest
of Fort Leonard Wood MO to 20 miles north northeast of Cape
Girardeau MO. For a complete depiction of the watch see the
associated watch outline update (WOUS64 KWNS WOU4).
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
REMEMBER...A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are
favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area.
Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening
weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible
warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce
tornadoes.
