#LASD Homicide Dets Announce $10K Reward in 2012 Shooting Death of Norwalk Tow Truck Driver

Detectives Announce Money Reward Offered in
2012  Murder Investigation of Norwalk Tow Truck Driver

Homicide Bureau detectives announced a money reward during a press conference this morning, offered in exchange for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a man wanted for murder.  After six years of looking for the killers of a tow truck operator, detectives are hoping $10,000 might encourage witnesses to step forward and help identify them.

Robert Garcia was only 22 years old when he lost his life.  It was just minutes before midnight on Thursday, June 28, 2012, when he finished his shift at a Norwalk-based tow company, located in the 13500 block of Norwalk Boulevard.  As Robert walked back to the office, three men approached and chased him.  The victim fled eastbound on Front Street toward the business, but was fatally shot multiple times at the front door.  Surveillance video revealed Robert pounded on the front door, pleading for someone to open it, before he collapsed to the ground.  Only a few more minutes and Robert would have, instead, been on his way home.

The suspects fled the grisly scene, southbound on Norwalk Boulevard and out of view.

Witness accounts indicated noises like fireworks, believed to be gunfire.

Robert, known as a dedicated and hardworking young man, was pronounced dead at the scene.  At the time of his death, Robert was the provider for his budding family, and left behind two small children who will never get to know their father, and their mother to care for them on her own.

On Thursday, June 28, 2018 -six years to the day of the shooting- detectives approached the media at a press conference. Lieutenant Scott Hoglund announced a $10,000 reward sponsored by Supervisor Janice Hahn, Los Angeles County, 4th Supervisorial District, and approved by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, offered in exchange for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects responsible for Robert’s death.  Detectives have not yet identified a motive for the murder and encouraged anyone with any information to come forward.

Robert’s mother, Anna Salazar, made an emotional plea and asked for anyone with any piece of information about the three men who chased her son and fatally wounded him to come forward.  She said she was heartbroken, and asked for them to contact the Sheriff’s Department so Robert’s children will know justice was served.

Robert's father, Lloyd Garcia, described his son as a good boy,  as he fought back tears, unable to hide his grief.

The suspects were described as three males of Hispanic descent.
