Location: Westridge Knolls area of Petaluma
Suspect(s): (Name withheld due to age) 16 year old Petaluma resident
On June 25, 2018, Petaluma PD received a call that a pistol, unknown prescription medications, and over $1000.00 in cash were found in a 16 year old family member’s bedroom. The juvenile male was not present. Officers found the pistol was loaded and unregistered, and the medication was Xanax, which is a controlled opioid.
The following day, officers contacted the juvenile and inquired about the pistol, pills, and cash. He admitted to recently purchasing the pistol from an unknown person in the downtown area of Petaluma, and that he was actively selling Xanax around Petaluma. The juvenile was booked into the Sonoma County Juvenile Detention Center.
Officers are continuing to verify how the juvenile came into possession of the pistol. Law enforcement around the country, as well as Petaluma PD, have been attempting to combat the increasing opioid (Xanax) epidemic, especially among juveniles, and strongly encourage reporting of suspected activities related to controlled substances.
