Water Emergency Sends One to Hospital

Sheriff Richard J. Behnke, reports that on June 30th 2018 at 1617 hours, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office was called to investigate a water related emergency on Dewey Lake in Cass County’s Silver Creek Township, A 63 year old female from Palos Heights, IL was floating on a tube near the sand bar, when her family pet jumped in the lake and began to struggle, she then went to assist her pet and began to struggle to stay afloat. Her husband entered the water attempting to help her and was not able to get her to the boat. Multiple citizens on the lake came to assist the husband. The female was taken to shore and then transported to Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac for non-life threatening injuries. No personal floatation devices were used.
