Investigators make arrest in shooting
Detectives from the Folsom Police Department made an arrest Friday, June 29th, stemming from a reported shooting on Sunday, June 24th, near the intersection of Owl Meadow Street and Porter Court. Jerome Dontyce Hunter, 20, of Rancho Cordova, had initially reported that he was shot at when he fled from a marijuana transaction when the seller tried to rob him. Hunter’s vehicle was struck during that incident but no one was injured. Officers and investigators immediately went to work, with help from an air unit and K9 units from allied agencies. They determined that the suspects had fled the area and there was no further risk to the residents in the area.
Investigators followed up throughout the week with the evidence officers gathered at the scene and now believe Hunter had actually met the other subjects to sell them illegal handguns. An argument occurred during the transaction, and the other parties shot at Hunter.
Detectives from the Special Investigation Unit located and arrested Hunter, finding another handgun in his possession. They booked Hunter into the Sacramento County Jail for being a felon in possession of a handgun, possession of ammunition by a felon, and violation of his parole. The investigation is ongoing, and further details are not available at this time.
“Incidents like this are very unusual in Folsom,” said Detective Sergeant Bill Bradshaw. “My team went to work right away and got the evidence we needed to take action in this case. We are fortunate to have the time and resources to follow-up and find out what actually occurred, and make arrests when someone puts innocent residents at risk.”
