INCIDENT: Robbery, Assault with a Deadly Weapon

LOCATION: Nisqualli Road / 11th Avenue, Victorville

SUSPECT(S): Vernell Thompson, 24-year old resident of Barstow

SUMMARY: On June 30, 2018, deputies from the Victorville Police Department responded to a traffic collision at the intersection of Nisqualli Road and 11th Avenue. Multiple callers reported a man fighting with others at the collision.

Upon investigation, it was discovered a female traveling east on Nisqualli, in a Chevy Tracker, failed to stop at the red light at the intersection and collided with a female traveling south on 11th, in a Chrysler Town and Country. Vernell Thompson, the fiancé of the driver of the Chrysler, witnessed the collision. Thompson approached the Chevy and opened the driver’s door. He demanded the driver pay for the damages. He then assaulted her and attempted to grab her purse and pull her out of the vehicle. The victim was still wearing her seat belt, making Thompsons efforts unsuccessful. A husband and wife passing by stopped at the collision and offered to help. Thompson assaulted the good Samaritans hitting them both with his fists. As a result of being hit, the female victim fell and broke her arm.

Thompson fled and was found in a nearby neighborhood, where he was taken into custody. He was arrested and booked at High Desert Detention Center for Robbery and Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

Three of the occupants of the Chrysler were transported to a local hospital, for complaints of pain associated with the collision. The female Samaritan was transported to a local hospital, as a result of the assault.
