The Fremont Police Department is now recruiting for the fall 2018 Community Police Academy

The Fremont Police Department is now recruiting for the fall 2018 Community Police Academy. For over 20 years the Community Police Academy has supported the concept of community and police working together to enhance the quality of life in our City. This program was developed to build partnerships with our community and offer a transparent overview into the department’s services, structure and personnel.  The program includes class lectures, firearms instructions, a chance to “ride along” with police officers, and other “hands on” opportunities. The ultimate goal of the program is to form new relationships with our community members. The Fremont Police Department believes public opinion and knowledge is essential in establishing the community trust.
What is the Community Police Academy?
A 40hr course designed to give community members a behind the scenes look at the Fremont Police Department. Academy classes meet once a week on Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m., with one Saturday class.   The 12- week fall session will begin on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 and go through Tuesday, October 16, 2018.
Who can sign up?
Individuals who wish to part take in this program must live or work in the City of Fremont. Participants must be at least 18 years old. Persons selected to attend the Academy are expected to participate in 11 out of the 12 sessions. All eligible candidates are subject to a records check. A prior conviction will not automatically disqualify an applicant and will be considered only as it relates to the Academy program. This program is not designed for police officer candidates. It is an overview of the police department for  community members.
