Chemical Endangerment Arrests

(Etowah County, AL) Two local women have been arrested in connection to chemical endangerment of a child, according to Sheriff Todd Entrekin.

“Sara Jane Chittam, 27, of Rainbow City, and Jessica Amber Abner, 29, of Gadsden, are each charged with one count of chemical endangerment of exposing a child to an environment in which controlled substances are ingested, produced or distributed, a felony,” investigator Brandi Fuller said.

Chittam admitted to using heroin and marijuana and tested positive for opiates, marijuana and fentanyl while pregnant.

Abner tested positive for cocaine and admitted to using the illegal drug while pregnant.

Both Chittam and Abner are currently detained in the Etowah County Detention Center on $10,000 cash bond for the chemical endangerment charge. As a condition of their bond, they must successfully complete a drug treatment program and will be supervised by Etowah Court Referral Office (CRO) upon release.

Special thanks to the Etowah County Department of Human Resources for their assistance.
