Outdoor Siren test at 11am
When weather conditions permits the outdoor warning sirens are tested monthly on the first Wednesday of each month at 11:00 AM. This test is to assure the sirens are at the ready during times of emergencies. WHAT SHOULD YOU DO WHEN YOU HEAR THE WARNING SIRENS When you hear the sirens, you should SEEK SHELTER AND INFORMATION. If you are outside, go to a per-designated shelter area such as a safe room, basement, storm cellar or the lowest building level. If there is no basement, go to the center of an interior room on the lowest level (closet, interior hallway) away from corners, windows, doors, and outside walls, put as many walls as possible between you and the outside. DO NOT open windows. Once you are inside and safe, turn on the TV, radio or NOAA all hazards alert radio to be informed of the storm’s location, path and the duration of the warning. No all-clear signals are sounded once the warning has expired. Exit your shelter when you feel it is safe to do so. Be aware, however, that the situation can change so be prepared in case another warning is issued in the Platte County area. We strongly recommend that every resident, business and school use a NOAA all hazards alert radio that has a battery back-up. Weather alert radios automatically activate to specific areas you program to warn and inform you when a warning is issued in Platte County.
