On July 1, 2018 at approximately 5:00 AM, a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox being driven by 55 year old Angels Camp resident, Jutta Larson, struck a pedestrian on South Main Street just north of Mayo Street.
The pedestrian was identified as 60 year old Angels Camp resident, Jon VanWey. For unknown reasons, VanWey was in the northbound lane of South Main Street when he was struck by the vehicle.
VanWey was transported by air ambulance to an area hospital and later succumbed to his injuries on July 7, 2018.
The driver of the vehicle was uninjured.
