SB Police Fish Fleeing Felon from Pacific
SANTA BARBARA, CA – Thursday, July 12, 2018
On July 11, 2018 at 3:30 AM, Santa Barbara Police Department Patrol Officers responded to a call reporting a battery that had just occurred at the Amtrak Station on State Street.
Officers arrived at the scene and discovered a local unsheltered woman suffering facial lacerations and several broken bones. The victim did not want to cooperate with the investigation.
Other people had witnessed the attack, however, and stated that the victim was kicked repeatedly to the point of her losing consciousness. Following the assault, some of these witnesses chased the alleged attacker, who fled to the wharf and jumped into the ocean - a balmy 69 degrees at the time.
Harbor Patrol and Santa Barbara Police Officers responded, using two boats to locate, corral, and retrieve the subject, later identified as Casey Michael Lewis, age 35, on parole from an earlier robbery conviction.
Lewis swam around Fool’s Anchorage, a boat mooring location just east of the wharf, for approximately an hour before finally complying with instructions to board one of the boats.
Following a medical examination, Lewis was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail for felony assault with a deadly weapon (his hands & feet), felony battery resulting in great bodily injury, and violation of his parole terms.
