Improperly Restrained Infant Dies in Solo Vehicle Traffic Collision

On July 19, 2018 at 5:16 am West Covina Police Officers responded to a solo vehicle traffic collision in the 2100 block of East Cortez Street. Upon arrival, officers found a single car that collided into a pole. The car was occupied by the driver, 32 year-old resident of Covina, and the driver’s one month old infant daughter. The infant was in the front passenger seat, not restrained in a child safety seat, and was unresponsive. The infant was transported to the hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. The mother was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
The West Covina Police Department accident investigation team is conducting the investigation. The case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office in the near future.
