Search warrants served at 2 "internet cafes" after investigation reveals illegal gaming/bookmaking at locations

SUMMARY:
On Wednesday, July 25, 2018, deputies and detectives from the Barstow Sheriff’s Station served two search warrants at two “internet cafes” on West Main Street in the unincorporated area of Barstow. The search warrants were authored as a result of an ongoing investigation into allegations of illegal gambling taking place at the cafes.
Various single- and multi-player gaming tables, machines, computers and documents related to illegal gambling were seized from the businesses. The seizures included a large quantity of money believed to be profits from the illegal gambling. Four subjects believed to be operating the cafes were questioned and released. The case will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s office for review.
California’s state gambling laws prohibit the operations of such businesses. Convictions of these felony crimes can be punishable by a fine of up to $5,000 and/or a year in state prison.
