Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect until 10 p.m. tonight; flash flooding possible
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for the area until 10 p.m. tonight. The greatest severe threat will occur mid/late afternoon into the evening as the highest instability will exist over this period. Damaging winds and isolated large hail will be possible through this time, along with a threat for poor drainage and flash flooding. Motorists should use caution this evening and be prepared for torrential downpours and potential flooding.
The main line of storms this evening will slowly sag through the area, bringing a more isolated threat for damaging winds along with a continued flood threat. One additional factor to note with this event is that high soil moisture will increase the risk for uprooted trees where high winds occur this afternoon, increasing area vulnerability to wind damage.
To report downed wires or power outages, call PSE&G’s Customer Service line at 1-800-436-PSEG. Please be sure to charge your cell phones and have flashlights available in the event of a power outage.
