On Thursday, July 26, 2018 at 0118hrs patrol units were dispatched to the Luxury Inn for a report of a disturbance. It was reported that one of the parties involved was in possession of a handgun. Upon arrival all three parties in the motel room were detained for officer safety. One of the parties, Gary J. Oatman 39 of Pleasantville, NJ was found to have suspected crack cocaine on his person. A second party, Jimmy McCray 35 of Somers Point, NJ was found to have unrelated warrants for which he was taken into custody and lodged into the Atlantic County Jail. During the course of their investigation patrol officers observed controlled dangerous substances (CDS) along with drug paraphernalia in plain sight in the motel room. A police K9 from the Egg Harbor Township Police Department also positively alerted to Mr. Oatman’s vehicle which was then impounded for further investigation.

Search warrants were granted by Judge Rosenberger authorizing detectives to search both the motel room and the vehicle. Additional CDS, drug paraphernalia, and a substantial sum of cash were seized from the motel room. Mr. Oatman was charged with Possession of CDS (four counts), Possession with Intent to Distribute (two counts), Possession of Prescription Legend Drugs, Certain Persons Prohibited from Possession Weapons (a crossbow), and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and was released on a summons.
