U.S. Highway 550 has reopened between Honeyville and the intersection with East Animas Road (County Road 250) after mudslides from heavy rains on the 416 Fire burn scar forced a closure Thursday afternoon.

Mudslides from heavy rains on the 416 Fire burn scar has forced the closure of U.S. Highway 550 at Honeyville north to East Animas Road (County Road 250).

Megan Graham, La Plata County spokeswoman, announced the closure as of 3:20 p.m. It’s unclear if other county roads in the area are closed.

Rains began falling Thursday afternoon, and not too long after, reports of flooding started coming into authorities.

Graham said mudslides and debris flow are concentrated in the Pine Acres areas, where previous rain storms caused flooding over the last several weeks. The Colorado Department of Transportation is working to reopen one lane, she said.
