Flood Advisory until 12:30AM Friday

The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has extended the

* Flood Advisory for... Gaston County in the Piedmont of North Carolina...

* Until 1230 AM EDT.

* At 930 PM EDT, Doppler radar is showing some isolated areas of heavy rain continue across Gaston County, especially from Bessemer City to Cherryville. However, the most significant rainfall has ended with rainfall totals of 1-2 inches countywide. An additional half-inch of rainfall is possible over the next couple of hours.

* Streamflows remain elevated, especially along Long Creek just north of Bessemer City and Catawba Creek near and south of Gastonia. Therefore, the Flood Advisory has been extended to allow residual Minor flood impacts to recede.

* Minor flooding is defined as flooding of farmland, recreational areas, greenways, boat access ramps, and other low-lying areas especially adjacent to streams as well as flooding of urban areas including underpasses, parking lots, low-lying or poorly draining roadways.

* Street and low-lying area flooding especially around Gastonia, Lowell, Cramerton, and Bessemer City remains possible. Drivers and persons are encouraged to exercise extreme caution and avoid flooded roadways.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include... Gastonia, Mt Holly, Belmont, Cherryville, Bessemer City, South Gastonia, Dallas, Stanley, Cramerton and Lowell.

* AFFECTED AREAS: GASTON, NC

Instructions:

Heavy rainfall has caused ponding of water in urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses, as well as other poor drainage areas and low lying spots. Do not attempt to travel across flooded roads. Turn around, dont drown. Only when it is safe to do so, please report floodwaters flowing over roads or threatening property to the National Weather Service by calling toll-free, 1, 800, 2 6 7, 8 1 0 1, by posting on our Facebook page, or via Twitter using hashtag NWSGSP. Your message should describe the event and the specific location where it occurred, including roadways, nearby cross streets, stream names, and other landmarks.
