Deputies arrest a Crestline man for transportation of a controlled substance for sales

SUSPECT(S): Jason Eugene Averhart, a 46-year-old resident of Crestline

SUMMARY: On Sunday, August 5, 2018, at approximately 10:30 PM, Deputies Blake Stebbing and Kelly Bush from the Twin Peaks Sheriff's Station, contacted Jason Averhart, who was a wanted criminal and had been absconding from probation for several months. Averhart was on Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS) Probation since 12/24/2017 for previous drug and violence-related charges and also had two active arrest warrants for possession of drug paraphernalia.
During a search of a 2018 GMC Sierra, Averhart was observed getting into, Deputies Stebbing and Bush located paraphernalia related to drug sales. Some of the items found included US Currency in different denominations, brand new zippered plastic baggies, a digital scale, several cell phones, and crystal methamphetamine. Averhart was arrested, transported to Central Detention Center, and booked for transportation of a controlled substance for sales. In total, nearly a quarter pound of crystal methamphetamine was confiscated as evidence.
