Monthly test of Nixle Notification System used by Clay County.
This is the monthly test of the Nixle notification system used by Clay County Kansas. We will send emergency messages through this system before, during and after emergencies occur in our county as a way to inform the public of important information.
During storms and severe weather, DO NOT depend on us to send weather notifications through this system. We MAY send a notice that a Weather WATCH has been put into effect, but we will not routinely send messages when a WARNING is issued due to the time sensitivity of many of those events and our staffing limitations. If we can send a notice we will. But, every community member should have multiple ways to receive weather warnings. When you know severe weather is a possibility, turn to KCLY Radio 100.9 FM for the most current updates for our county. There are multiple free apps available for download that will send emergency weather messages to your phone. Follow the Topeka National Weather Service Office on their social media pages and on their website www.weather.gov/top they will update the Situation Report on their webpage as needed to keep citizens aware of weather concerns.
Clay County officials will use this system to provide information during emergencies. Some examples of that information could be descriptions of a lost child or senior citizen. Or it could be instructions after a disaster about where to go for shelter if your home is destroyed or information about a hazardous chemical spill in or near a community and what action you should take to stay safe.
To determine what kind of messages you wish to receive, set up your profile at www.nixle.com. To receive text messages on your phone, send your zip code to 888777 and follow the instructions you receive. Please share the information about this system with your family and friends. They will not receive the notices if they do not enroll in the system.
