Hamilton County Sheriff Mark Bowen announced today that Captain Dennis Quakenbush will serve on the Senior Advisory Committee for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Sheriff Bowen says, “Captain Quakenbush’s knowledge and expertise will be as valuable an asset to the committee as it is to the community we all enjoy. He is highly qualified and will serve Hamilton County and Indiana well.”

The Senior Advisory Committee supports the National Preparedness Goal, the purpose of which is to prepare communities for all types of disasters and emergencies with a five-prong approach of prevention, protection, mitigation, response and recovery. Among the committee’s responsibilities are integrating preparedness activities across disciplines and working with local, state, tribal, and territorial government agencies to maximize coordination and reduce duplication of efforts. Funds are provided to states by DHS to support efforts in strengthening national preparedness and resilience with an overall objective of preventing terrorism and other catastrophic events as well as preparing for threats and hazards that pose the greatest risk to the security of the United States. The committee does its part in achieving these objectives by ensuring that Indiana awards funds for projects and initiatives that support and enhance the ability to prevent, protect, mitigate, respond, and recover from both natural and man-made threats and disasters.

We can accomplish this by including the private sector, non-profit organizations, faith-based and community organizations, and all levels of government throughout Indiana. Quakenbush currently serves as the Commander of the Patrol Division for the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office and is a lead for the law enforcement emergency support function in Emergency Management. He has attended multiple command and executive level courses through the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, FEMA and federal, state, and local agencies.
