Looting Arrest Made After Theft From Carr Fire Base Camp

On August 7, 2018, officers with the Anderson Police Department and deputies with the Shasta County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a theft from the Carr Fire Base Camp/Emergency Operations Center, located at the Shasta District Fairgrounds.

Fire personnel relayed to the Law Enforcement Command Post that a subject on a bicycle had just stolen a generator that was being used to power lights in the Fire Fighter sleeping area. The suspect reportedly attempted to conceal the generator in a rolling trash bin to avoid detection. Base Camp personnel confronted the suspect and he fled the area, leaving the generator behind.

APD Officers, SCSO Deputies, and the California Highway Patrol helicopter conducted a search of the area for the suspect.
The searching officers located, Corey Dean Lee, age 41, of Redding, attempting to hide in an abandoned building in the 19000 block of Alexander Ave.

Lee matched the description of the theft suspect. When confronted Lee failed to follow the officers commands and a brief struggle ensued. Lee was taken into custody and placed under arrest for the theft. Lee admitted to attempting to take the generator.

Lee was transported and booked into the Shasta County Jail on charges of grand theft, looting during a state of emergency, and resisting/obstructing a peace officer. Lee was also found to be on probation out of Shasta County for theft related offenses.
