Press Release – Residential Entry, Criminal Trespass, Criminal Mischief

On August 13, 2018, at approximately 3:14 AM, Ogden Dunes PD officers were dispatched to the report of a person who had broken several windows on an occupied home on The Thumb, a short cul-de-sac street north of Diana Road. The call was almost immediately amended to include that a male subject unknown to the victim had entered the victim’s house.

Ogden Dunes Police Officer Tim Beach arrived at the home and learned that the suspect had left the residence when the victim confronted him. Officer Mike Chandler from the Burns Harbor Police Department; Officers John Messina, Eric Goetz, and Richard Krieg and his K-9 “Falco” of the Portage Police Department; and Officer Alexias DeJesus of the Chesterton Police Department responded and assisted with the investigation.

At approximately 3:40 AM, Officers followed the track by K-9 Falco and located the suspect hiding under a deck in the rear of a nearby home. The suspect sustained a bite wound and was taken into custody.

The suspect was treated for his bite wound at the Portage Hospital and was released. He was subsequently transported to the Porter County Jail. The suspect’s name is being withheld pending filing of charges by the Porter County Prosecutor.

The Ogden Dunes Police Department thanks the Burns Harbor, Chesterton, and Portage Police Departments for their invaluable assistance in the apprehension of the suspect.
