Newberry Police Department receives donation for bulletproof vests
The Newberry Police Department received a donation check in the amount $1,100.00 on Monday from Janice Meeks on behalf of the Reedy River Association allowing them to purchase more equipment for their officers.
The donation, which is intended for the purchase of bulletproof vests for the department will help tremendously, Police Chief Roy McClurkin said.
While each officer is provided with a vest when they join the department, McClurkin said they must be replaced every five years as they each have an expiration date. The donation will help in replacing outdated vests allowing officers within the department to have the most up-to-date equipment.
“I’m so grateful and thankful for our wonderful community partners who help keep our officers safe while performing their duties each and every day,” McClurkin said. “I’m appreciative of their warm and gracious generosity.”
