The Denville Police Department is investigating numerous motor vehicle burglaries, including one stolen car, that occurred sometime between midnight and 6:00 a.m. this morning in the Beacon Hill section of the Township.

We are asking anyone in this area with video surveillance systems to please review your footage from last night. If any suspicious persons or activity is captured, please contact the department at 973-627-4900 x 9. A detective will contact you in order to review and/or obtain a copy of the footage. As a reminder, you can also register your surveillance system with the police department through our Virtual Crime Watch program. We would also like to take this opportunity to remind everyone to make sure that you lock your vehicles every time they are left unattended, even in your driveway. In addition, please make sure that all valuables are removed from the vehicle and never leave your keys in an unlocked vehicle.

To further remind all residents to lock their vehicles and homes, the Denville Police Department will be participating in the #9PMRoutine social media campaign. The purpose of this campaign is to get residents to set an alarm on their smart phone or another device that reminds them to remove valuables from their cars, ensure that their car doors and trunk are locked and secure, check to make sure the doors to your home are locked, and to turn on any exterior lights.

All of our recent car burglaries have occurred to unlocked vehicles and our two most recent motor vehicle thefts involved unlocked vehicles that had the ignition key/key fob left in the vehicle. Please take the extra time to remove your valuables and lock your doors to avoid becoming a victim.
