A transformer fire and electrical wires in the roadway have caused sporadic power outages and forced the closure of Route 27. At 2:30pm a transformer fire on Route 27 between Alston Road and New Road was reported. The wires from the transformer fell onto Route 27 forcing the closure of the highway.
Traffic lights on Route 1 at New Road and Whispering Wood Boulevard are currently on flash. Police are on location and only right turns can be made.
PSEG is working to fix the problem. Kendall Park Fire Department, New Jersey DOT, and South Brunswick Police are working on the incident.
