Press Release: Successful Negotiations Lead to Peaceful Surrender

SUSPECT: Kosta Petrakis, 33-year-old, Transient
On Thursday, August 9, 2018, at approximately 8:20 P.M., Milpitas Police Officers responded to a construction site at 1210 California Circle on the report of a male, later identified as Petrakis, acting erratically while wielding a large metal pipe. Officers saw Petrakis at the construction site, and he refused to comply with requests to disarm himself. Officers trained in crisis intervention negotiated with Petrakis for approximately thirty minutes in an attempt to get Petrakis to disarm himself. The officers successfully de-escalated a potentially violent situation, and convinced Petrakis to disarm himself and surrender. Petrakis was peacefully taken into custody.
Petrakis was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for obstructing or delaying an officer and an emergency psychiatric evaluation.
