On May 3, 2013 Governor Christie signed into law the Overdose Prevention Act.  Essentially, the Overdose Prevention Act encompasses both the “Good Samaritan Emergency Response Act” and the “Opioid Antidote and Overdose Prevention Act” which encourages individuals to call 9-1-1 and seek emergency assistance in cases of overdose and expands access to the lifesaving medication, naloxone.  

On August 12, 2014, Governor Christie, as part of the Governor’s Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse (GCADA) commitment to raising overdose prevention awareness and combating stigma, proclaimed August 31 as Overdose Awareness Day.   This was the first proclaimed Overdose Awareness Day in New Jersey and it coincides with International Overdose Awareness Day which began in August of 2001 in Australia and has been recognized annually in countries throughout the world.

Since May of 2014, the Pine Hill Police Department has received over 157 reported overdoses, with 59 Police Officer and 18 EMS deployments of naloxone, resulting in 77 lives saved.  We must continue to work with community members, addiction professionals and law enforcement partners to combat this epidemic. 

Anyone with information about the distribution, sale or use of drugs should immediately call 9-1-1 or send the information to [email protected].  Information may also be sent by text to the Pine Hill Police Department anonymous tipline by texting TIP PINEHILLPD followed by your message to 888777.

The Pine Hill Police Department is committed to addiction prevention, overdose response and the aggressive pursuit of those who distribute and use controlled dangerous substances in our community and we;

•encourage anyone witnessing a drug overdose to call 9-1-1 immediately.  The “Good Samaritan” law N.J.S.A. 24:6J-1 provides immunity for the person calling for help and the person experiencing the overdose.  You will not be arrested, charged or prosecuted for possession of a controlled dangerous substance or being under the influence of the same.

•have a drug collection drop box located at the Police Administration Building available 24 /7 for the disposal of unused, unwanted or expired medication.  A mobile collection container is also available for your community event.  Call 856-783-1549 or email [email protected] for more information.

•participate bi-annually in the DEA Operation Take Back to collect unused, unwanted or expired medication.  The next event will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2018 from 10:00am – 2:00pm at the Police Administration Building.  Call 856-783-1549 or email [email protected] for more information.

•have collaborated with the Pine Hill Municipal Alliance, Camden County Addiction Awareness Task Force and Pine Hill School District to host numerous community outreach events to provide information on services available to drug users and their families and will continue to work alongside our community partners to combat this epidemic.
