NEWS MEDIA INFORMATION REPORT

SUBJECT OF RELEASE: Personal Injury Crash

DATE AND TIME: Tuesdsay, September 4, 2018 at approximately 12:40 PM.

LOCATION: The intersection of Douglas and Willard Roads, Ferris Township

AUTHORITY/CONTACT PERSON: Sheriff Mike Williams

The Sheriff’s Office was sent to a single vehicle crash involving an all terrain vehicle. The crash occurred at the intersection of Douglas and Willard Roads in Ferris Township at approximately 12:40 PM on Tuesday, September 4, 2018.

The investigation revealed that a 2015 Polaris Ranger, driven by a 74-year-old Riverdale man, was travelling north on Douglas Road. As the operator made a left turn to head west on Willard Road, a 61-year-old Riverdale man fell from the cargo area of the Ranger. The 61-year-old was sitting on a kitchen chair in the cargo area unrestrained and struck his head on the pavement as he fell. The man was flown to Spectrum in Grand Rapids via Aeromed for treatment. As of September 5th, the man was listed in stable condition and is expected to be released.

The driver, as well as a 58-year-old Lansing man riding in the passenger’s seat, were not injured.

The two seated in the cabin portion of the Ranger were wearing seat belts. The turn was believe to have been made at a reasonable speed and poor judgements seems to be the cause of the injury.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Montcalm County Emergency Medical Services, Aeromed, and the Crystal Fire Department.
