Ripon Recycling Center – New Compactor Purchased by the City of Ripon and Ripon Schools Parent Faculty Clubs.
The City of Ripon - in partnership with Ripon Unified School District, Ripon Schools Parent Faculty Clubs, and American Recycling - operates a drop off recycling center on Industrial Avenue. The recycling center has been operating in Ripon over 10 years and has diverted over 530 tons of cardboard, paper, glass, plastic, styrofoam, CRV cans & bottles, and electronics from landfills. This partnership has allowed the City of Ripon to meet State mandated recycling requirements while the proceeds from the scrap value of the material have been used to fund various school and parent faculty programs, such as offsetting the cost of science camp for sixth grade students.
Important improvements have recently been completed at the recycling center. The City of Ripon and PFCs have shared in the cost to purchase a new compactor that will allow the parent and student volunteers working at the recycling center to keep up with the increased volume of cardboard that is being dropped off. The City of Ripon has also added additional security cameras around the site and relocated/expanded the cardboard drop off area.
Volunteers from the PFCs spend countless hours each year processing the recyclable material. It is important that individuals follow all listed rules to ensure what is being dropped is an acceptable item and that it is put in the correct place. Failing to do so means that volunteers have to spend valuable time sorting material that could have been sorted by the person who left it at the site. It is a violation of City rules to leave items at the center that are not part of the recycling program. If you observe anyone illegally dumping material at the recycling center, please call the Ripon Police Department at (209) 599-2102.
