FLOODING PREPAREDNESS
If you reside in a flood prone area or an area near water, it is likely you will experience flooding during this event. You are urged to continue to monitor the weather forecast, and have a plan in place to evacuate your residence, if needed. It is strongly suggested not to wait until the conditions are at their worst, before deciding to vacate your homes. Your safety and the safety of the first responders are top priorities.
1. EXPECT FLOODING EVEN IN AREAS THAT HAVE NOT FLOODED BEFORE
2. SECURE ALL PROPANE TANKS
3. MOVE GARBAGE CANS, OUTDOOR FURNITURE, AND ANY LOOSE MATERIALS INSIDE, SECURE AWNINGS
4. PREPARE TO EVACUATE
5. BE PREPARED TO LEAVE QUICKLY TAKING ESSENTIAL MEDICATIONS, AND IMPORTANT PAPERS
6. MAINTAIN SITUATIONAL AWARENESS
7. SIGN UP FOR THE FOLLOWING APPS TO GET REAL TIME INFORMATION: NCREADY.COM AND NIXLE.COM
8. PREPARE YOUR EMERGENCY KIT:
Water - 1 gallon per person per day for 3 to 7 days
Food – non-perishable and canned food supply for 3 to 7 days
Battery-powered or hand crank radio with extra batteries
Cell phone with charger
First aid kit
Flashlight and extra batteries
Manual can opener for food
Anti-bacterial hand wipes or gel
Wrench or pliers to turn off water
Blanket
Prescription medications and glasses
Change of clothing, including sturdy shoes
Toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, feminine supplies
Important documents – insurance policies, copy of driver’s license, Social Security card, bank account records
Pet food / supplies
Cash and change
