Information on services for Officer Reyes
Dear residents,
On Wednesday night, September 12, 2018, our Department lost one of our own. Officer Oscar Reyes was a 13-year veteran with our Department, who worked as a motor officer in the Traffic Division for the past 10 years, five of those as a motor trainer.
On that Wednesday, Officer Reyes participated in the Orange County Traffic Officers’ Association Motor Rodeo. In the evening, while at home, Officer Reyes suffered a medical emergency and was transported to a nearby hospital where he subsequently passed away.
"Officer Reyes was a loyal public servant. He was truly passionate about our chosen profession and committed to traffic safety in our community. He was our brother, our friend, a great father, and a husband. As a tight-knit Department, we are devastated and feeling the grave and sudden loss of our brother. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has reached out to us publicly and privately. All your condolences, prayers, kind thoughts and positive gestures have been heartwarming and appreciated," said Chief Rob Sharpnack.
Officer Reyes leaves behind a wife and three children. The Costa Mesa Police Association has kindly established a scholarship fund for Officer Reyes’ three young children: https://costamesarelief.firstresponderprocessing.com/
