On 9/20/2018 at 3:40 AM Steuben County deputies responded to the Tamarac Trails addition on 30 E near CR 400N Angola. Initial reports indicated that a male person had gained entry to a home and had assaulted a female occupant inside. After the initial altercation, the female victim was able to fight off her attacker and the suspect fled the residence. Detectives from the Sheriff’s office were called in and discovered that Angola City Police had two previous incidents during the night within the city of Angola that were similar that they were actively investigating. Deputies and officers from the Indiana State Police began searching the area for the unknown suspect based on the descriptions received from the victim in Tamarac trails and the victims in Angola. A suspect vehicle was located along I69 near the Ramada inn. Further investigation revealed the suspect had obtained a room at the Ramada inn but searches of that area for the suspect were unsuccessful. At approximately 6:03 AM another resident at Tamarac trails reported a confrontation with the suspect whereas the suspect was confronted by an armed homeowner. Again the suspect fled as law enforcement converged on the area. A K9 track was started along with Unmanned Ariel Vehicles (UAV) from the Sheriff’s Office and Angola City police were deployed. A door to door search of the Tamarac addition was being conducted when the suspect was located hiding inside an outdoor shed. The suspect was taken into custody without incident. This incident remains under investigation, and it is believed the suspect arrested is the same suspect from the previous incidents in the city of Angola. (Please contact Angola City police for their case-incident information) All questions pertaining to this case need to be directed to the Steuben County prosecutor’s Office. The case will be turned over the Steuben County prosecutor’s office to determine further charges that may be applied.
Suspect Arrested: Dwain Horner age 33 of Fox Lake Angola (photo) has been arrested on preliminary charges of Burglary with a deadly weapon, Battery with bodily injury, Criminal Confinement, strangulation, and Residential Entry. (Note – These changes are from the incidents in the county only and do not include possible charges from the city of Angola.)
Agencies involved include: Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, Angola City Police, Indiana State Police, Indiana Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement, and the Fremont Police Department.
