Earlier this afternoon U.S. 223 was shut down between Lane Street and Silberhorn Hwy due to a utility power pole that had broken away at the base across the street from McDonalds. As a result the power lines had drooped to less than 10 feet off the ground crossing the roadway creating a potentially life-threatening situation.

Consumers has advised that the pole has been temporarily reinforced and will be replaced at a later date. The pole is currently tilting at approximately 5 degrees off of center. We are expecting continued high winds for the rest of the day. Blissfield Police will conduct hourly visual inspections for at least the next 24 hours in order to detect any further leaning of the pole, and will take appropriate action if the situation deteriorates.
