UPDATED INFORMATION ON 9/18/18 CHEVRON CATALYST RELEASE
This is follow-up information regarding the catalyst material release that occurred at the Chevron El Segundo refinery on Tuesday, September 18th. This information applies to individuals and parts of the community that were previously identified and received notification flyers (mainly the El Porto area for Manhattan Beach).
On September 18, 2018, the Chevron Refinery inadvertently released FCC catalyst material (dry, white powdery residue) into the air. Some of this material may have settled on your vehicles or property. The relatively large particles can cause temporary irritation of the eyes, nose, and mouth while they are airborne. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health recommends you take advantage of Chevron’s offer to professionally clean vehicles and impacted properties. Please contact Chevron at (310) 615-3747 for cleanup information. Public Health will continue to monitor this incident, along with other regulatory agencies. For questions about health effects, please contact Public Health at (213) 738-3220.
